Humans of RASG, similar to Humans of New York, is a verbal snapshot of the people who make up our high school. Each human is asked to speak about themselves at length, and their monologue is recorded and transcribed verbatim. In order to keep it real, nothing is left out.
Rafaela Cohen (9th grade)
Hi! My name is Rafaela Cohen. I’m in 9th grade, and I’ve been going to Hebrew Academy for four years now. Hebrew Academy is by far my favorite school I’ve ever been to. The second I entered Hebrew Academy, I immediately felt welcomed and loved. Biology is definitely one of my favorite subjects and it extremely piques my interest. I find it so fascinating to learn about the cycle and system of life. Basketball is one of my favorite things to do. I consider basketball my therapy because it helps me relieve all the stress that has been building up over the day. Basketball is almost like an escape from reality. This year I am focusing on my school work and giving my all to getting good grades and succeeding. When I’m older I want to pursue medicine and hopefully become an endocrinologist. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes when I was eight years old. It took a huge toll on both me and my family. I wasn’t quite sure how to cope with this information but, after a while, I got the hang of it. High school is just beginning, but I am really looking forward to the Orlando retreat because I know that I will be able to spend time with my friends and create new memories. This summer I traveled quite a bit. I went to Portugal to ski, and I went to Italy and Israel. I am looking forward to the rest of the school year and I can’t wait to see what 9th grade has in store for me.
