Humans of RASG

Humans of RASG, similar to Humans of New York, is a verbal snapshot of the people who make up our high school. Each human is asked to speak about themselves at length, and their monologue is recorded and transcribed verbatim. In order to keep it real, nothing is left out.

Yosef Melul (12th)

My name is Yosef Melul and I’m in 12th grade. I have been in Hebrew Academy for 14 years and my favorite part about the school is the friends I made, they’re like a second family to me. My parents and I were born in Venezuela, but my family before comes from Spain and Morocco. We moved to Miami in 2003, it’s when Hugo Chavez came back into power and wanted to take custody of all the kids in Venezuela, so we decided to come here so I wouldn’t become a ward of the state. I left when I was two so I don’t remember much from Venezuela, but I went back once in 4th grade which was like eight years ago. I went to Caracas, it’s not the prettiest city, but it has fire mountains and a lot of natural things to see. It’s located in a valley and it’s surrounded by all these mountains, it’s cool. It also has these nice beaches. You know, it’s a nice country, it’s just not in it’s best moment. I’m the second of four children, I have an older sister who’s working and is about to turn 22. I have two younger ones, Isaac is 13 and Ruth is eight, so it’s a fat gap. My favorite color would be I guess blue. I don’t really go on vacation but honestly I would want to go to Morrocco or Spain because I have a lot of heritage there so it would be cool to see it. I would also want to go back to Israel. So after high school, I want to go to college and major in computer science and work in software engineering or something like that. I don’t know, I find it fascinating and I really love it.
