Parsha Vayigash

B”H

This week’s Parsha is Vayigash. In this Parsha, Jacob comes down to meet his son, Yosef, after many years of thinking he was dead. When Jacob came down to Egypt he met Pharaoh. The first thing Pharaoh said was, “How many are the days of the years of your life?”(Genesis 47:8). Pharaoh was a brilliant man, and so what was he really saying?

In reality, Pharaoh asked Jacob to tell him how many days Jacob lived to the fullest, and these days would be the days that Jacob actually lived. Pharaoh was saying that living life isn’t the same as being alive. This is a lesson to be taken seriously, because life is short and precious. Therefore, live life to the fullest so you can say that you really lived life.
