On Monday, November 7, The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team earned their spot in the JDSF Preseason Classic Championship game after they defeated Hillel with a final score of 34-9. The Hebrew Academy hosted the annual JDSF Preseason Classic tournament.
The game was led by Rina Reich (11th grade) who carried her team to victory with a total of 14 points. This exciting win secured the Lady Warriors a spot in the championship game of the tournament against rival, Katz Yeshiva High School.
The following day, the Lady Warriors faced the KYHS Storm. The Lady Warriors put up a tough fight, but struggled offensively throughout the game. Despite the initial drive to the basket from Florencia Chami (12th), various free throws from Kayla Sedighim (10th) and Sophie Gordon (12th), the Storm remained strong competitors. The Lady Storm scored shot after shot, and the Lady Warriors were unable to keep up. Ultimately, the KYHS Storm took the title and won the tournament with a final score of 42-6.
“Even though we lost in the championship game of the preseason classic, we have a strong team, and we have faith that we will be successful and make it to districts this year,” said Chami.
The Lady Warriors are optimistic about their upcoming season and will not let this preseason loss determine their fate. The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team is gearing up for their regular season which begins on Wednesday, November 16, where they are set to take on Divine Savior on their home court.
