In their first win of the season, the Lady Warriors Varsity Volleyball team dominated the Cushman Lady Cougars on Wednesday night. They defeated them in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-11.

The Lady Cougars streamed ahead with an early lead to begin the match. But the Warriors quickly caught up with four points from Michaela Acevedo and three aces from Amit Shushan. Throughout the next two sets, the Lady Warriors dominated as a team, not once giving up their lead on the Cougars.

The Warriors showed incredible perseverance and unity throughout the game with key contributions from multiple players. Michaela Acevedo (fourteen kills and eight aces), Yael Bister (twenty-seven assists), and Amit Shushan (seventeen service points and seven kills) all did their part to pull the squad to victory. At one point, Amit Shushan caught fire and rallied for eleven straight serves.

“I have been playing volleyball here since seventh grade and I can honestly say this is the most united we have ever been,” Michaela Acevedo (10th grade) said. “Winning this first game as a team was incredible, especially seeing all our hard work pay off was amazing.”

Despite this being their only win of the season so far, the Warriors are optimistic that this win will be the first of many.

“I am so proud of our team and so excited for the rest of the season. We have so much potential, and even though we lost the other games, it is okay. We will keep fighting and we will keep going.” said Shirel Baranes (10th).
