Humans of RASG, similar to Humans of New York, is a verbal snapshot of the people who make up our high school. Each human is asked to speak about themselves at length, and their monologue is recorded and transcribed verbatim. In order to keep it real, nothing is omitted. This week, the Warrior Word interviewed Mazal Popack (9th). Get to know Mazal as she discusses her Russian background and various hobbies.
"Hi, my name is Mazal Popack. I'm a Russian Jew, and I also speak Russian as I lived there previously. I've attended many different schools in the past. For example, I went to kindergarten in Russia and attended a few different Jewish private schools for elementary and middle school. I joined Hebrew Academy last year in eighth grade but attended school here for a year in fifth. I enjoy life in Miami as I live near the beach. I love surfing and swimming. I also just enjoy the beach environment. I started competitive surfing last year and I've already won a few competitions. Another sport I play is tennis. I've been playing tennis for a while now and feel I’m pretty good at it. My favorite thing to do other than surfing is to play backgammon. I play it at every opportunity I have, and I truly believe I can beat anyone. I have ten siblings—nine brothers and one sister—with one more on the way. I’m the third oldest with two older brothers, and I’m really close with my family. I spend time with my family by taking Shabbat as a time to be with them and go on family trips frequently. After I graduate, I want to become a holistic nutritionist and study health. I’m already doing research now as I want to be prepared."
