Humans of RASG, similar to Humans of New York, is a verbal snapshot of the people who make up our high school. Each human is asked to speak about themselves at length, and their monologue is recorded and transcribed verbatim. In order to keep it real, nothing is omitted. This week, the Warrior Word interviewed Ness Sasson-Gelman (9th). Get to know Ness as he discusses his transition to Miami and various hobbies.
“Hi, my name is Ness Sasson-Gelman. I'm an Israeli-Libyan Jew. I'm a new student in 9th grade at Hebrew Academy and I used to live in Manhattan, New York. When I lived in Manhattan I went to Park East Day School; I was there for five years. I just moved to Miami because of my dad’s job and to support my grandma who has health issues. My mom’s from Herzliya so I learned Hebrew from her, and my dad’s from New Jersey. I also have a sister who just started 5th grade. My hobbies are coding, chess, math, geometry, physics, swimming, karate, and basketball. I love reading in Hebrew and learning about Middle Eastern affairs. I started learning to code in mid-2019 and got really into it during covid. I know how to code in Python 1, 2, and 3, HTML, C++, a little bit of JavaScript, and CSS. I learned how to code online through websites like Tynker and later moved to Code Academy which I felt helped me a lot. Later, some guys in Discord mentored me. I like living in Florida because I like the water and the beach. I have 1800 fide in chess. When I’m older I want to enter the field of veterinary science because I love being around animals and I want to treat them. I specifically want to work in the biotech field, developing medicines and doing research in order to cure diseases for animals in the gene therapy field. Thank you.”
