Live Like Sammy

Hebrew Academy students have adopted the mottos “Live Like Sammy” and “Smile for Sammy” in the wake of his tragic passing to emulate and remember Sammy’s happy demeanor. To honor his memory and continue his legacy, The Warrior Word now features a weekly column dedicated to Sammy.

A memory I have of Sammy was every tefillah he would go around telling people to put on their talit because we’re in the Sephardic minyan, and one day I asked Sammy, “Yo, why do you try and get so many people to put on their talit?” And he told me, “We’re sent to the earth to do Hashem’s mission, we have a task to complete, and I want to make my task to get more people involved in Judaism, and from there I can complete my task when I go to heaven, and go to heaven and not go to hell.” What I learned from Sammy, from all of these memories, is that I’m going to take it upon myself to also be more involved in Judaism, so thank you Sammy. I miss you. -Ariel Bramy (11th)
