Meet Elian Benishay

Humans of RASG, similar to Humans of New York, is a verbal snapshot of the people who make up our high school. Each human is asked to speak about themselves at length, and their monologue is recorded and transcribed verbatim. In order to keep it real, nothing is left out. This week, the Warrior Word interviewed Elian Benishay (10th). Get to know her as she speaks about her move to Miami and her long-lived dream to become a dentist.

Elian Benishay (10th):

Hi! My name is Elian Benishay. I go to Hebrew Academy and I am in 10th grade. I’ve been attending Hebrew Academy for 5 years, and I love it. My prior schools were fine, but they didn’t have the good Jewish education that I wanted, and, as a Jew, needed. When I first arrived at Hebrew Academy in 6th Grade I felt very welcomed, but the adjustment was challenging because I didn’t know anyone. Also, I lived in Aventura, so commuting to Miami Beach and home again was a bit difficult, but now I live in Surfside and am closer to school and all of my friends, so I’ve adjusted well. On Sundays, I go to Friendship Circle to help out and have fun with special needs kids, which makes me feel so happy and rewarded. I’m not usually a sports person, but I enjoy playing flag football and was on the team last year and hope to make it this year! For now, I’m not playing any sports, which gives me extra time for schoolwork and friends. When I’m older, I want to go to college in New York and then dental school since I’ve dreamed of being an orthodontist since I was in second grade. This summer, I stayed in Miami and had fun with my friends and family. My birthday is in the summer, which added even more fun! I’m very excited to continue the rest of the year and enjoy the Israel trip in April. I’m so excited to finish my high school years at Hebrew Academy and make memories with my friends and family.
